Alexander Abbot
Artist Bio
Alexander Abbot is a WAAPA graduate originating from Canberra, who has performed on stage and screen around the country and internationally.
Coming from a hip hop and breakdance background, Alex made the transition to contemporary dance with QL2 and trained under the supervision of Ruth Osbourne as Artistic Director from 2012. In 2015, Alex moved to Perth to study dance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. During Alex’s time in Perth he worked with many choreographers such as James O’Hara, Scott Ewen, Richard Cilli, Brooke Leeder and performed with STRUT dance company in collaboration with Hofesh Shechter.
Alex has also acted in short films, music videos, performed in theatre plays and does modelling. Alex has travelled to Darwin multiple times to work with SLIDE Youth Dance where he performs, teaches and mentors.
Alex has been privileged to be part of national and international dance workshops including DaCi (Taiwan, 2012), AYDF (Renmark. 2014), CYDF (Glasgow, 2014) and B12 (Berlin, 2017). Since coming back to the East Coast in 2020, Alex has been working with Cadi McCarthy through Catapult Dance Company.
Alex enjoys incorporating his dancing background into his contemporary style and is always eager to learn new skills. Alex is a hard worker who thrives on challenges and pushing boundaries.
