I will share some of the stories on how the body of work came together and some of my many blunders, including getting a tick stuck in between my eyelashes. Should be fun!

After Hours Artist Encounter: Kate Rohde Artist Talk

Join us after hours at Maitland Regional Art Gallery to hear Kate Rohde discuss her art practice and busy year of exhibitions, and current work on display in Monster Mash.

Kate takes inspiration from decorative arts, science and mythological creatures to create intensely colourful jewellery and sculptures.

Kate Rohde has exhibited at the Art Gallery of South Australia, Heide Museum of Modern Art and in 2015 was a finalist in the Rigg Design Prize at the National Gallery of Victoria. Her work is held in the collections of several institutions including the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, Newcastle Art Gallery and Bendigo Art Gallery.

Choreography Workshop with Cadi McCarthy 13 - 18 years

Human Remains dance performance by Catapult Dance at Maitland Regional Art Gallery .

Join a workshop especially for teens with professional choreographer Cadi McCarthy.

Participants will learn contemporary dance and choreographic process discovery based on the kinetic sculptures of Hannah Gartside.

The workshops will focus on developing choreography that stems from the kinetic movement and aesthetic qualities of the sculptures in the exhibition, Harbingers: Loie, Artemisia, Pixie, Sarah And Lilith.

Cadi McCarthy is the Director and Founder of Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub. Cadi has been actively engaged in dance as a professional dancer, choreographer, educator and director.

Join us for the opening of EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL AND NOTHING HURT: ALEX SETON and DOUBLE RAINBOW: MICHELLE GEARIN from 5.30PM Saturday 10 December to celebrate the launch of these two exciting exhibitions.

Alex Seton will be presenting a series of blown glass chandeliers throughout The Lock-Up's historic cells in tribute to those made by Newcastle’s discontinued Leonora Glassworks and commonly seen within entranceways of clubs and RSLs of post-World War II Australia.

Hunter-based artist Michelle Gearin will be presenting a new body of work exploring her personal experience as an Autistic artist responding to the power of the human eye and the science of optics.

Both exhibitions feature site-specific commissions that push each of the artist's practices through the use of new and exciting mediums.
